The undefeatable spirit of man

When we see a person convicted of crimes that come from broken homes, foster care and abuse we tend to say they are a product of their environment. That if they had had a better background they could have been a better person. Then there are the times when people from good environmental conditions go bad and we wonder if there might have been something bad that happened to them that is not obvious.

Yet occasionally we see someone who comes from the worst of human tragedy and becomes a good productive person. How such people obtain good morals and attributes defy the assumption that we are only the product of our upbringing and childhood.
